The Mind of Christ = Historical Optimism?

Doug Wilson posits here that the “mind of Christ” in the understanding of God’s plan to redeem the world. This seems a bit narrow (if that was all he thought that it meant, which I don’t think it is) to me, as the mind of Christ seems to be in reference to both the “big plan” and the little plan for our lives. We are to live with the mind that seeks the glory, enduring the shame, for the joy set before us.

Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
(Philippians 2:5-11 ESV)

Never really get tired of that section. This is both the big plan of world-wide redemption, in that every knee will bow, in history, to the Christ Jesus who was obedient unto death. It is also the mind that did not grasp after what was rightfully theirs, but rather became a servant, enduring shame and ridicule for another (the Father’s) glory. This is the mind of Christ. May the Spirit of the Living God conform us to that image. Amen.
